Frequently Asked Questions

Adventure Elopement Videographer and elopement Photographer

This is everything you’ll need to know for how We plan, film and photograph elopements.

Why Do You Specialize in Elopements?

I’ve said forever that outdoor adventure is my passion and storytelling is my purpose. Telling YOUR story is my purpose. I get so much joy and fulfillment from creating and capturing a truly meaningful and intentional day for the couples I work with.

After working for years in the outdoor adventure industry getting certified as a wilderness first responder, gaining proficiency in backcountry safety and leading hundreds of people on adventure travel trips through North and South America I wanted more. It wasn’t enough for me to just provide opportunities of outdoor exploration for people, I wanted to help them connect on a deeper level. I transitioned from leading outdoor trips to working with bigger commercial clients onlike Netflix, 1% for the Planet, Ortovox and Boulder Tourism on their outdoor lifestyle video and photo campaigns. But still it didn’t feel like enough.

“Outdoor Adventure is My Passion, Storytelling is My Purpose”

When I first started filming elopements in 2017 I realized that this was it. It brought everything I loved about trip planning, outdoor exploration and technical camera expertise into a meaningful and special gift I can provide to people. I was finally able to provide a service that I felt like I was truly called to do. In all of my camera work, I’ve always told stories of love, hope, joy and adventure. Now, I get to do all of that and leave people with their best memories that they can cherish for a lifetime.

How Much Does It Cost To Have You be a part of Our Elopement?

Ah, the age old pricing question.

You may notice that I don’t have a dedicated pricing page on my website like other adventure elopement videographers or elopement photographers and that’s intentional!

Your story is unique and I strive to tailor every adventure elopement to your interests, passions, and needs. For that reason, I always love to hop on a call with you and your partner to see how much I can make the most of your money and give you as many amazing photos, videos and planning experiences as possible! A three day adventure elopement in Moab may cost a little different than a skiing elopement in Breckenridge so I like to keep things flexible.

What is listed below is a rough estimate of what you can expect to invest because, like every couple, every elopement film is different. This is all about YOU! We’re constantly updating prices to reflect how best to serve you on your special day so we can create custom experiences to fit exactly what you’re looking for.

*Another quick note on pricing, we only accept a maximum of two elopements a month so we can give each and every couple a truly unique and personally tailored experience.

COLORADO ELOPEMENT VIDEOGRAPHY STARTS AT $5,000

DESTINATION ELOPEMENT VIDEOGRAPHY STARTS AT $6,000

VIDEOGRAPHY + PHOTOGRAPHY COMBO STARTS AT $8,000

Can You Help Us Pick Our Location?

Heck to the yeah!

I’ve lived in Colorado for almost 6 years at this point and have spent most weekends over the course of that time exploring. Beyond elopements, I choose to spend my time in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. I’ve summited over a dozen of Colorado’s 14ers (most of them in the snow). I’ve done trail running marathons in the red rocks of far Western Colorado near Utah, I’ve camped many, many nights in the San Juan Mountain Range near Ouray and Telluride. I’ve skied pretty much every run available in summit county around Vail. I’ve rock climbed some of the most iconic routes in the remote wilderness areas in and around Rocky Mountain National park. All that to say, I have seen a lot of Colorado and have quite a list of favorite locations to recommend to you for your adventure elopement.

You may be thinking, “Roo, that’s super rad you can help us out there but what if we want to elope outside of Colorado?!”

 How I Choose Locations!

That’s where my other experiences begin to shine. Before elopements, my job was literally to plan and guide people on outdoor adventure travel trips. Planning and leading trips through Peru, Ecuador, the Grand Tetons, the Pacific Northwest and even Eastern Europe is all what I’m capable of. If you let me know what you’re looking for, I’m happy to plan it all for you. All you need is one word to guide us and we can take it from there. Some words to think about for planning your adventure elopement include; mountains, beach, desert, cultural experiences, warm, cold, cozy, adventurous, rocky, snowy, surfing, skiing, airplanes, s’mores, vintage, etc. I really want to get a location that’s perfect for YOU so this is a fun and collaborative process!

Let’s get started on choosing your locations!

Do You Travel for Destination Elopements?

Yes, yes I do. And I loooove it! I’m regularly on a plane and on the road for exploring some of the world’s most wild and beautiful places :)

Some of my favorite places I’ve traveled to are…

  • Morocco

  • Slovenia

  • Japan

  • Peru

  • Costa Rica

  • Wales, UK

  • Moab, Utah

  • San Juan Islands, Washington

I’ve been to 35+ countries so let’s keep traveling!

Travel has always been a big part of my life. I speak Spanish fluently and Arabic conversationally. I lived in Costa Rica for two years and visit Latin America, for work or not, about once a year. I even spent some time working as a travel guide in Peru and Ecuador too before doing adventure elopement videography!

So, needless to say, travel is my jam and any opportunity I get to hop on a plane and see a new place or show people my favorite places, I’m right there for it :)

If you book before march 2022, I’ll be waiving all travel fees for anything outside of Colorado too!!

I DOn’t Know How to plan an adventure elopement,

Can You Help Me?!

Absolutely! That’s what I’m here for!

I’m a visual learner so made a whole video about it below that you can check out but just in case you’re stoked on reading, here are my thoughts…

Step 1) Contact Me!

This is a great way to get started in the whole entire adventure elopement process because you’re able to be guided by a professional.

I’ll ask you questions to get you thinking about what it is you’re wanting; where do you want to go (i.e. beach vs. mountains?), what’s your idea of a perfect day with your partner (i.e. hiking in the wildflowers or picnic at an alpine lake), what gets you excited about eloping (the intimacy, connection to nature or the simplicity of it all?). By hiring a photographer/videographer/planning right off the bat they can help you along with all the questions you may have to make sure you’re getting an experience that’s perfect FOR YOU!

Step 2) Choose An Activity

You may be wondering why choosing a date or a location isn’t step #2 and that’s because whatever your goal is for your elopement day will dictate where and when you decide to elope! If you want to ski, you should choose to go to the mountains in the winter.

If you imagine camping and recite your vows at sunrise over some water, you may want to choose a warmer weather destination and summer elopement. I’ve made a whole video about opting for a full day elopement that may give some more insights into how to make the most of your adventure elopement.

Some of the most popular elopement activities are:

  • Hiking

  • Skiing or Snowboarding

  • Paddleboarding or Kayaking

  • Picnics

  • Rock climbing

  • Off-roading (Jeeping)

  • Camping/backpacking

  • Helicopter Rides.

Step 3) Choose Date / Location

Once you have your activity picked and know you have a videographer/photographer/planner on your side to chat about what you’re looking for in an elopement experience, you can start narrowing down locations! Some places may require permits (like Maroon Bells in Aspen or Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park) so it’s good to get this done early. When you decide on your location and a date, you can start looking into more specific hiking trails, lakes, overlooks, rock climbing crags, ski runs, etc. but remember, this process should be fun. If you find yourself getting stressed about finding that perfect location, don’t you worry my friend, there’s so many beautiful places out there that I guarantee we’ll get something great for you!

Weekday vs Weekend Elopement

I cover this a bit in my “How to Elope in Colorado” video below but I always recommend a WEEKDAY elopement. On weekends, the outdoors tends to get a little crowded. Traffic is worse to the trailhead, you may not have an alpine lake as secluded as you’d like, accommodation is more expensive, etc. Eloping on a weekday also gives you a chance to extend your trip by having a weekend on either side of your destination elopement.

Step 4) Get Your Wedding Clothes

Once you know what you’re doing and where you’re going, this will be a good time to start looking into some dresses and suits. A frequently asked question on these sorts of adventure elopements is what to wear if you’re hiking or having a more active day. Wedding dresses and suits are not necessarily known for their versatility and comfort in the outdoors but there’s ways to make it work. Over everything, I always say go for clothing where comfort and confidence meet! That’s the sweet spot.

There is no one specific way you have to look, a certain dress you have to wear or a style of suit you have to bring. Go with what makes you feel confident but keep in mind that having some sort of breathable fabric in the summer and layers in the winter are great options.

Adventure Elopement Clothing tips for winter:

  • Bring a fur shall or warm coat to put on throughout the day.

  • Wear skin colored tights so your bare skin isn’t out all day.

  • Hand warmers are your friends. They also have these body warmer things that I’ll link HERE that you can put on the side of your ribs that are sooooo nice for really cold days.

  • Boots. Just bring boots, it makes life so much easier. Romping through snow or in the cold with heels or dress shoes on just doesn’t really work unfortunately. You can always bring a change of shoes if you want!

Adventure Elopement Clothing tips for summer:

  • Light, breathable fabric is your friend; both for dresses and suits

  • If the activity you chose requires certain flexibility (i.e. hiking long distances or rock climbing), think about something to change into before or afterwards.

  • This is more a fashion tip than a practicality tip but it’s always kind of fun to match some smaller details of your attire to the environment you’re eloping. For instance, the Pacific Northwest has some beautiful dark greens and blues so having socks, tie, or pocket square that matches those tones it can look pretty fly.

General clothing tips to keep in mind:

  • Veils and trains look super dope but just be aware of how you’re going to manage them. Hiking 7 miles in a dress with a train without a bustle will be pretty uncomfortable.

  • Your clothes are going to get dirty so instead of trying to find it, lean into it. It looks rad at the end of your elopement day and you get to support your local dry cleaners by getting it cleaned afterwards. The great thing about a wedding dress is you only really wear it once so go all out!

  • You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do so if you only want to wear your wedding dress for your ceremony and do the rest of the day in hiking pants or shorts, definitely do it!

Step 5) Finalize Logistics

By this point you’ve had your elopement photographer and elopement videographer all locked in and, ideally, helping you along the way. You getting excited about the activity you chose to do as part of your adventure elopement like biking, hiking or skiing. You’ve chosen a date (ideally on a weekday) and figured out where you’re meeting your videographer/photographer/planner on the day. Now, all you have to do is lock in the rest of the small things and you’re good to go!

Some final logistics could include:

make sure you or your photographer/videographer/planner writes out an outline for the day.

You don’t have to be strict about following the specific times you write out if that’s not important to you but it’s good to have a guide for the day. This will ensure you do all the things you want and provides meetup spots for vendors or family members that may meet you along the way. It’s kind of a bummer when you’re at one trailhead and your family is at the other but neither of you have service so, writing something out only takes a minute and can save some confusion down the line.

Once you finalized the remaining little things, just rest easy and get excited! All the planning is done and you can go out and make a memory with the person you love most in the world!

We love you and we’re so excited to work with you, what do we do next?!
