There’s a growing popularity in elopement photography and video teams out there. This makes sense. You don’t want to spend your time shopping for an elopement photographer and go through the whole process again when it comes time to hire your elopement videographer. Since this is likely your first time planning an elopement, I’m going to walk you through the process of what happens when you decide to book our photo and video combo collection.

Castlehouse founder and lead photographer/videographer Roo Smith actually does it all. One of the benefits of going with somebody like Roo is that he handles all your emails, questions, planning, filming and photographing! You may be wondering, “hot dang dude, isn’t that too much to handle?! Shouldn’t you outsource it to other people?!”
In-short… no. It’s not too much and I love every second of it.
I started in videography. I’ve filmed dozens of elopements before taking even one picture during the process. As I began to grow my skills in cinematography and life behind the camera, adventure photography came next. Without the pressure of messing up, I took photos of friends out on our adventures. Confidence grew and I began taking photos during elopements as a surprise little bonus for the couple who had booked me for video. The longer the elopement days became and the more time I realized I had with the couple I found I was able to take well over 50+ photos to be delivered by the end of elopement day, even for just a 4 hour elopement. Finally, when I niched down to only take on full day elopements, my elopement videography and elopement photography soon merged into one stellar option.

Now, being the elopement planner for many of these adventure elopements in Colorado, Washington and abroad, I find that couples resonate with having just one person there to guide them through it all. I’m here for you. Taking pictures, making films and all the technical mumbo jumbo that it takes to do that isn’t important anymore. What’s important is that the emotion, the memories, the environment and the story of your elopement day are captured at the highest quality possible. And that’s what I do… I capture your story.
When you have 8 or 9 hours with me on your elopement day, there is plentyyyy of time for one person to take both photos and videos. All the best spots will be captured, all the moments preserved and all the memories kept forever. Step by Step Guide into Booking an
Elopement Photography & Videography Package with Castlehouse videography
Step 1: Ash + Justin are looking for an all-in-one photo and video collection and submit an Inquiry Form at https://www.castlehousevideography.com/contact-us
Step 2: Roo reads their inquiry and learns they want to elope somewhere in Colorado in 3 weeks, a pretty last minute inquiry but there’s an open spot still available for the month so Roo hops on a call with them.
Step 3: After that initial phone call where Roo gets to know the couple, learns they’re moving out to Colorado soon and wants to explore the state while they’re here on elopement. He outlines his photo + video combo collections and tells them that although this elopement planning process can be overwhelming, he’s here to help through all of it. Roo sends them a proposal and they sign it alongside their deposit.
Step 4: Now, it’s planning time! Ash & Justin don’t really know where to go so after Roo sends them the Castlehouse 50 page Colorado location guide, they hop on a call. He asks about their preferences (they want to hike where it’s not too hot and end by swimming in an alpine lake in their wedding clothes) and knows just the spot. He gets permits and locks in all the logistics for them.
Step 5: It’s showtime! Ash & Justin show up with a couple of backpacks full of snacks, sunscreen and water and jet off behind Roo. Roo is carrying three cameras, two for video and one for photo. Although all three cameras can do both photo and video really well, he likes to divide it up in case one camera breaks or fails, he has back ups ready!
As Roo, Ash and Justin hike, Roo stops periodically to takes some videos, he stops a bit later and takes some photos. For the ceremony, he’s got two cameras up on a tripod and one camera ready for photos. Boom. Photos and videos captured by one person. Throughout the day, whenever the couple stops for some photos, videos are also captured (and vice versa)
Step 6: Roo gives Ash & Justin big hugs and says thank you for the solo invitation to their adventurous Colorado elopement and goes on his way. He backs up his elopement photos and elopement videos. Over the course of the next month, he edits the videos and photos so they have a cohesive style. The benefit of having one person do it all is that you can make the photos and videos look super similar. If you hire two people they may have two different styles and your photos and video will look suuuuuper different.
Step 7: Roo delivers Ash & Justin their elopement photos and videos in an easy all-in-one elopement website where they can share their photos, videos and relive all the memories again and again. 5 star reviews are given and a lifelong friendship made!
